Turning Point USA St. Mary’s College Chapter President Macy Gunnell told Newsmax that slain conservative leader Charlie Kirk understood that the fix for America’s cultural ailments comes from the home.
“Something that Charlie said all the time, that I think has a lot of impact on my generation, is that these cultural issues, they have a spiritual root in them, and these cultural issues have a political root in them as well,” Gunnell said Monday on “National Report.” “So it’s a domino effect that we really have to follow, and it’s only going to be fixed in the homes.”
“So we’re going to follow Charlie’s lead because he always showed us exactly the way to live your life, and that is Christ-centered, that is marry young, that is have plenty of kids because, again, this change that we need in our country is going to come in the home,” she added. “And he and [his wife] Erika very perfectly showed all of us young Americans exactly how to do that.”
Kirk, the co-founder of conservative youth group Turning Point USA, was assassinated while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on Sept. 10. He was 31.
On Sunday, tens of thousands of people, including many of Kirk’s closest friends and colleagues, gathered in State Farm Stadium in Arizona for his memorial service. Security was incredibly tight at the venue due to the presence of President Donald Trump as well as many of his administration’s senior officials.
Gunnell said that “you could feel the passion from all over the world with this memorial.”
“It was energetic, it was Christ-centered, everything it should have been,” she said. “I echo the words specifically of [Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security adviser] Stephen Miller. Charlie Kirk has been immortalized. You saw it with the energy there in that room. You see it with the energy that he has spread all across the world in the event of this tragic assassination.
“So my heart is full knowing that Charlie is definitely smiling on us, watching from above. He’s always wanted to fill a stadium, so I can assure him that he filled a stadium. He’s going to continue to fill stadiums with this energy and with this movement.”
