Israel’s Consul General in New York Ofir Akunis described Monday’s release of Israeli hostages as an emotional and deeply human moment, telling Newsmax that meeting with those freed felt “like a rebirth” for them and their families.
Appearing on “National Report,” Akunis reflected on the powerful scenes of reunion and recovery following two years of captivity.
“They think that nobody can be in their shoes,” Akunis said.
“It was difficult. I met most of them — not all, but a lot. And I can see and I can feel their emotions.”
The veteran Israeli diplomat said the joy and relief among survivors and their families marked a spiritual renewal after enduring trauma and uncertainty.
“This is very emotional, maybe like a rebirth — actually, a rebirth of their families,” Akunis said.
